Birth of a baby is a miracle. What is more miraculous is the journey of the miracle nine months preceding its arrival. Read on to marvel on the baby’s journey inside the womb.
Week 1- Your baby has yet to be conceived! Your pregnancy begins as your body gears up for ovulation and prepares for fertilization.
Week 5-6 – The heart and circulatory system are developing and the little face starts taking shape.
Week 7-10 – Baby’s body starts taking shape and limbs start budding. Baby develops its first sense – sense of Touch! Your baby's first touch receptors develop in his lips and nose, which are connected to his growing brain. Over the next few months these will spread to everywhere else in his body.
Week 11-15 - Your baby's face starts taking shape and ears, eyes and nose become prominent during these weeks. Formation of lips have started and toes and fingers start developing. Taste buds start developing.
Week 13-15 - Your baby’s taste buds are already matured. She can detect strong flavors in the amniotic fluid, and will increase her swallowing in response to sweet tastes. Expect sweet cravings during these weeks!
Week 18 - Your baby's ears and brain have developed sufficiently for him to begin to hear his mother's heartbeat and voice, and the sound of blood rushing through the umbilical cord. This is the right time to start talking to the baby and listening to soothing music. Week 25 - Your baby's ears are structurally complete. She can now clearly hear her mother's voice and perhaps her father's (if he is close enough). She will also startle in response to loud noises. By week 27 she may be able to recognize her parents' voices.
Week 26 - Your baby's eyes open and start blinking! She will be able to see dim shapes by week 33, when the pupils of his eyes begin adjusting to changes in light. Baby will react to sudden change of light by movements in the womb if it is awake.
Week 28 - Your baby can taste more subtle flavors and is swallowing around a liter of amniotic fluid a day. She is also aware of smells. Until recently scientists believed that breathing was required for smelling. It's now thought, however, that a baby picks up smells from the amniotic fluid as it passes over the nasal cavities. It's likely that a baby's first tastes and smells help prepare her for drinking breast milk, which changes flavor according to what the mother has been eating.
Week 32 - Touch receptors have spread to all parts of your baby's body, making it universally sensitive to temperature, pain and pressure.
Week 34-37 – Your baby’s lungs and respiratory system is growing mature. Babies born during these weeks are considered matured babies though its early term. These babies mostly can breathe and survive outside the womb.
Week 39 – your baby is full term baby and is fully ready for life outside the womb
